Mini HL Estate Restoration, 2006

Pictures 29 Dec 2006

I finished off the outer sill on the near side then it was the turn of the front end to get some attention. A look up inside the wing toward the door hinge nuts reveals that there will be trouble ahead!

Started by cutting off the A panel. The doors must be removed to replace the A panel but you might as well cut off the old one first to allow better access to the upper door nuts. In this case they were very badly rusted and both studs sheared off and I could get a better view of the rust round the air vent hole.

Completely removing the A panel showed the old patches in the wheel arch, this had not been welded all the way round letting water in. The door hinge post and the lip where the A panel folds round were in very poor shape too.

Also the rust around the air vent and the top of the door post.
