Well there has been little progress on the GT except to rearrange the garage and move it up the corner out of the way while we decide what to do with it. Further investigation into the state of the shell has revealed that it has rot in some very nasty places and it maybe better if it had a heritage reshell rather than spend many many hours welding it up. There is plenty of time to make this decision as we have several other mini projects ongoing and i've decided that i'll do this one last, spend plenty of time on it (and no doubt plenty of money!) and do it justice.

I have some more news about the history of the car, see the intro section!

Repaired the jacking point area and also fitted a new support piece to the back near where the subframe mounts are. The outer sill is now ready to be welded in but I didn't get a chance to do it as I painted it all up and had to wait ages for it to dry.

Ok, so this was all stuff I did back on the 23rd but I only just got round to writing it up!

A new A panel has been installed on the drivers side. This was my first bit of panel work that I had to decide what I was going to do about the body deseaming. I'm currently in the process of replacing the right outer sill. This has been made less straight forward as I need to make repairs to the jacking point area. Once this is in place I can tackle the rear wheel arch.

After taking a break from the car for a few weeks I finally got back into it by buying some large welding clamps and getting 90% of the new floor welded in. I've also removed the rear wheelarch and it's revealed lots of rust at the front and back of the arch. I'd hoped to just repair the front of the arch but even this section is rotten larger than the repair panel. I'd hoped to avoid replacing this whole panel as it means i'm going to have to re-do the deseaming on the rear quarter panel. Hopefully the inner wheelarch is solid enough.

I've had a bit of a site reorganisation. I figured that one page for the restoration for the GT was not going to be enough so i've broken it down a bit (the website not the car!). I'll also use this as a bit of a restoration diary.

Up to this point i've mainly been stripping down the car and begun the repairs to the right front floor section. Its been a bit interesting because there are two floor sections - the original floor and a repair panel over the top. It also looks like i'll need a new inner sill on the front, thats fine though as the floor repair panel has this section in it.

When i've completed this section I'll go on and cut off the right outer sill and repair the rear arch at the same time. Amazingly after nearly 25 years the sills are original! They are now completely rotten but at least nobody has fitted the dreaded oversills and caused more damage.
